Hero Tower Defense Thursday: Day 15 - HTD Thursday's, Progress Update, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Go here to read the Day 14 of Hero Tower Defense Tuesdays.

Today is just a small update since it's Thanksgiving. I just wanted to give a brief rundown of our progress and some changes.

First, a reminder about the HTD day change. Sam was posting the PTD post later in the week at first but recently has been posting it on Monday because it works out better with his current scheduling of the weekly PTD update. Having the PTD post on Monday then immediately having the HTD post on Tuesday squishes things together. To remedy the problem we're going to change things a bit and have the PTD post on Monday and the HTD post on Thursday to have a better spread on the blog.

Next up I just want to say we're making pretty good progress on HTD and should make the late December release date as planned. We have some additional maps (the cave is multi-level) in the works by Kevin, Sam is adding more mechanics and features, and I'm working on the design of various things including the Tier 1 elemental and class moves and audio. So things are moving along nicely!

You can find more behind-the-scenes HTD art work on Kevin's blog, KXN @ HTD, check it out!

And last but not least (although it's a little late) Happy Thanksgiving!

All feedback is welcome and encouraged! You guys are a lot of help so be sure to let us know of any suggestions or ideas you have in the comments and thanks for all your help thus far!

What's new in v4.7

Pokemon Fan Film Part 2 - Short by Joel Otero (My brother :D ) - Check out part 2 of the PTD Fan Film!

New Story Level - Poke Tower 2 - What awaits us at the next level of the tower!?
New Pokemon to capture - It's a surprise!
Level cap up to 62 - Why not!
New Special Halloween Avatars to collect - Thanks Kimmy Lube and Zyon!

  • Buy the Duskull Costume with your Casino Coins in the Game Corner!
  • Buy any of the Halloween Avatar in the Avatar Store in the Pokemon Center for SnD Coins!
Implementing Accuracy and Evasion properly - Meaning attacks that lower or raise accuracy/evasion will affect the chances of hitting the target. This will work with your attacks and the enemy's.
Add a new effect similar to Black and White when an ability is triggered
Adding more abilities for other pokemo
  • Keen Eye - For Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Pidgeot, Spearow, Fearow, Farfetch'd
    • Prevents other pokemon from lowering the accuracy of this pokemon.
Changing the way saving works to prevent pokemon from being lost due to server errors - This will also make your saving take less time since it only saves what is necessary.
Fixed a duplication exploit - There was a hole in security that allowed people to duplicate their pokemon.
Added security to the Pokemon Center - It is now okay to share your url with other players.
Fixed an issue that was preventing the lowering of special attack debuff from working
The Lower (Special) Attack Debuff will now last 1800
Attacks that lower the target's (special) attack will no longer make them drop the candy. Only attacks that lower accuracy will make them drop the candy. This results in a shorter cooldown for these attack

Where can I play?
That was a long week! I wasn't sure I was going to make it, but I got most of it done :) My brother finally finished the second part of the PTD Fan Film check it out and let him know what you think. Speaking of my brother, him and I are co-writing a new web series that is a mockumentary (Think The Office) about two brothers who want to work in the entertainment industry. Him  making movies and me making video games. I'll be co-writing and doing some voice work for my character and he will be doing everything else. You can expect the pilot episode sometime in December. For Hero Tower Defense we want to release the first version of the game by January, so look forward to it. I still plan to make a HTD tab and a Labs tab in the near future to talk about any ideas that we have here at Sam & Dan Games. Now for the weekly questions from the forums.

Weekly Questions from the Forums!

1. Mitha: How important is balancing to you? Since most of the stats and moves are given by the original, you don't have much leeway, but you can balance a bit by how the animations work etc. Or don't you care at all about this?
Sam:I do care a lot about balancing the game, once the game is done I will go back and try to fix any imbalances but for now I fix as I go.

2. Robert Conley: Would you ever consider coding the Pokemon Center's trading system using javascript(link showing as javascript:void when moused over) so that we don't have to wait for a page load (instead possibly having a pop up that says the pokemon was removed, put up, or received) to deposit, remove, or receive Pokemon and then returning to the trade page?
Sam: I don't have a lot of experience in javascript but as time goes on I will try to make the Pokemon Center more intuitive.

3. Crazymerio: Will you eventually revamp some of the levels and features so that a new player can better understand the game/give the game more continuity. The best example I can think of is the adding of the main character not appearing in the very beginning of the game. It is very strange for the main character to go from you(outside of the computer) to an avatar in the game.

Sam:Yes! I do plan to do things like this little by little. The level rebalance is for this very thing. Even though I didn't get to finish it this week.

4. Mudkipz: Are we going to see more "cameo"-esk characters?
For example Maruto - The majority of people know who this is supposed to be, and i like the idea of them. If so will se be seeing any of them soon?

Sam: Yes! I will try to fit more in here and there :)

5. Trainer Red: What do you have to say to all the people trying to hack PTD at the moment?

Sam: Stop! Please :)

6. NinjaGod: Do you plan for avatar chat to become the main chat for PTD? (do you expect it to replace the IRC channels when it is done)?

Sam: No, I don't want it to replace the IRC chats.

7. Djm1997: What do you plan to make fly do since we can go everywhere instantly? Will it give us special levels or what?

Sam: I'm still thinking about what it can do exactly.

8. Xehanorto: Do you plan to nerf certain abilities that can't work for a Tower Defense game?
Sam: I usually remove moves that doesn't fit or try to change them. An example of this was Sand Attack not lowering accuracy since the enemy couldn't attack you before, but now that they can I added accuracy and Sand Attack behaves like it does in the game. So some of the missing moves will show up later on possibly.

9. ZKS: Do you plan on changing how Helping Hand works? Right now, it's extremely overpowered and makes all other stat boosting moves (Quiver Dance, Baton Pass, Dragon Dance, etc) worthless. And, do you plan on making BP able to pass a Sub or Water Ring like the games do?
Sam:Helping Hand is overpowered at the moment, to really make things interesting I would have to make buffs/debuffs stack 6 times. I do want to make Baton Pass more useful in the future.

10. Slash: Have you considered making special sprites/versions of certain Pokemon? ex. Ash's Squirtle (Wearing the Squirtle Squad glasses) or Gary's Giant Krabby?
Sam: Yes I have considered it but I never get the time to add them in.

If you want your question to show up on next week's blog go to our forum now (look at the fan links tab up top) and submit your question.

So we have a lot of left over things to do from last week so let's start there.

I won't be able to work a lot today (Saturday) and tomorrow so I will be postponing what is left for next week and releasing in about 2 hours (1:28PM Est), thanks for playing :)

Fixed Zap Cannon doing Shadow Ball instead of Zap Cannon (100%)
Make Destiny Bond and moves like that only work on pokemon that are at lower level than you (100%)
Fixed Onix learning Double-Edge twice and not learning Stone-Edge (100%)

Have a good week and Hero Tower Defense Tuesday is tomorrow so look forward to that!

To help resolve this issue I have added Battle Ready Non-Shiny Pokemon to the adoption center that are free of charge for this week ONLY. I will not be able to return any shiny pokemon. I will only be able to refund SnD coins to those who bought them and lost their pokemon.

Also I'm aware of new profiles not being able to save or press many buttons like the back button I will fix this on v4.6.2. Coming out shortly.

Sam

Where can I play?
Are you ready for another week of Sam and Dan Games?! Well I am! We haven't had much content here lately for PTD mainly due to building the avatar chat from scratch. But now that that's done I'm ready to ramp it up again on the single player for PTD. But before I get into that, the great members of our forum have provided me with the top 10 questions of the week.

Weekly Questions from the Forums!

1. Samzy: What do you think attracts players to PTD so much? And have you ever looked at PTD and thought, I made this popular creation, well done me :-) ?
Sam: It's not easy to see the game as a player but my opinion is that there are a lot of low quality fan made pokemon games out there. So when a player starts playing this game they might think it's just another bad fan game but when they see that it's fun and doesn't just slap pokemon in they really appreciate it. I am proud of this game and how far it has come :).

2. Mastersnowy: In HTD, will you be adding PTD benefits for beating levels? Or the other way around?
Sam: Yeah, this is something that Dan and I want to do eventually. Both ways.

3. Crazymerio: How do you decide which game suggestions to add, when you add new suggestion from the suggestions tab or from somewhere else?

Sam: This is a good question since there is really no right or wrong way of doing this. I basically look at a lot of variables. For example if we haven't had a new pokemon to catch in a while, when was the last time the level cap went up, what location do we have to visit next, is there major bugs that need to be fixed, is there a hack going around. After all of those are fufilled then I look the list of things I have in my head and the list on the site and which you guys have been asking for and I try to do those.

4. PikachuEevee: Where do you know Dan from?

Sam: We both worked at this warehouse, thats how we first meet.

5. King Slaughter House: Are you as motivated right now as you were when you first developed this game? And if not, what could get your gears grinding again ;-) ?

Sam: Yes and no, I'm still very excited about adding more to the game but when you are starting a new project the motivation is at the highest level. I think just the support of everybody and people playing the game week after week gets my gears grinding.

6. 1superheld: Do you think you will add a style (CSS) to the tradecenter?

Sam: Yes, a fan (Nssvelocity) made a layout a while ago that I want to implement soon.

7. NinjaGod: So, avatar chat is basically useless when someone is spamming... Can we get a kick for flooders and a ban for repeat-offenders?

Sam: Yes, I agree, more features will be added in v4.7.

8. Ume: Are you gonna add a halloween special event/level/story?
Sam: Yes, v4.7 will have some goodies :D

9.Link: How many people BOUGHT ninja-ja... and how many downloaded it after it became free. I'd like to see that comparison.
Sam: We don't actually keep track of how many people downloaded the free version but a little over 3,000 have submitted high scores. Less than 2,000 people have bought it since it came out. I think the big issue is that you have to download Ninja-ja, we have to put a version here on the blog that you can play right on the site.

10. MMaester: Roughly how many games have you already made before PTD? On Newgrounds there are 2 others available (Cannon Challenge and eTheatre), but are there more, and are they playable somewhere?
Sam: I've started tons of games before those two but never finished any of them.

If you want your question to show up on next week's blog go to our forum now (look at the fan links tab up top) and submit your question.

Okay just a quick thing with people getting scammed in the Trading Center. NEVER give anybody the url of any of your trades, only give them the trade ID. If you do accidentally do it log into your game and save. This will make the link not work anymore. I will be patching it up this week so that the url no longer contains sensitive information.

Okay so this week we have it all!

Have a good week and Hero Tower Defense Tuesday is tomorrow so look forward to that!

Top 10 Forum Questions of the Week:

    1. ZKS:  Have you ever thought of opening up development to the community, like Valve does? Specifically, letting developers who know what they're doing build "Fan-Made" challenge levels? Releasing 1-2 with each update will allow you to focus on the story/enhancements while keeping hardcore fans entertained between updates.

I think that would be a great idea but an idea that would take a long time to develop, considering the game is only half way done and I haven't even started on multiplayer. Something like this will have to wait unless, you guys the players would want this before multiplayer.

    2. Marth: Will we be able to fight Gary and Ash?

Yes and yes! That is all I will say.

    3. Garuthebest24: If u were able to live in any region in Pokémon for the rest of your life what will it be?

    Kanto Region!

    4. Ume: When/Will you give out a Sneakpeak/Demo/Teaser of Hero Tower Defense? >: As in Video xD or a short Flash Game ;3

As soon as we have something we will post it here right away, that picture that you saw at the end of the last HTD tuesday is literally where the game is now. Right now you fight against an endless supply of whelps until your two characters die then that's it. Not a lot to do yet.

     5. Professor Smeargle: Since you can't include all the egg moves for pokemon in Daily codes, how do you plan to incorporate the other Pokémon with egg moves? (eg: Close Combat - Growlithe)

In the daily codes, I will add more in the near future.

    6. ultraube: How many hours do you spend on most of these updates?

It's hard to really keep track of it all since I don't have a set schedule but I would say over 20 hours for each update.

    7. Dollyface61: Will all of Kimmylube's avatars be in the game?

I'll try to find a way to fit them all when possible, v4.4 will have one :)

    8. Cheatfreak208: Have you thought of the idea of Pokémon dropping items, which you can pick up. They would go away after a certain amount of time. And rare candies that have a small rate of falling from Pokémon and which you can not buy.

Pokemon will hold items in the near future, so I suppose if they are holding something and you defeat them that it would drop.

    9. Hypermania: Will Kevin, at some point, work on the art for PTD if the chance comes?

He might, but we would rather he make HTD art for the time being.

    10. Richard Harper: Hey Sam, Will all the past Postponed items/areas/bugs/extras ever be added? And will it include some of the bugs/suggestions from your own blog page?

Whenever I need to fill in some space on what to add to the game I will look at the suggestions and bugs pages. Most of the time just the story level and level cap can fill up the whole week.

Well that was fun! Head to the forums if you want to submit your question and have them posted next week.

So that's all I have for now, tomorrow will be Hero Tower Defense Tuesday so look forward to that. As always, let me know what you think.

Okay so we are starting this week's update a little late but I will update this weekend. First if you haven't seen my brother's fan film I suggest you check it out, it came out great. He told me he is making a second video since you guys liked it so much. We also thought that you guys would enjoy a different point of view of the events in the game rather than just follow the game exactly so the movies will follow two new trainers.

    Pokemon TD Fan Film
The Game Corner is out, you can play up to 500 times every day. You get 100 coins to start, if you ever go down to 0 then you will get 100 coins again, compliments of Giovanni himself. Different Machines have different rates of winning and different rates on their prizes. Some machines win more often, some win less often. Some have higher chances to win better prizes. You can win 8, 15, 100 or 300 coins. Play every day and save up for the new pokemon. Some of you, before the Game Corner came out, in the blog comments mentioned that you would like to buy the shiny versions of the pokemon with the casino coins, I thought it was a great idea but obviously the price for them has to be extreme since shiny pokemon are meant to be something that takes some time to get.

I get a lot of request by email or in the comments about converting Pokedollars to SnD Coins or Casino Coins. Before I can properly answer this question I have to address Pokedollars, right now getting a huge amount of Pokedollars is very easy to do, so providing a way to convert them to SnD Coins or Casino Coins essentially means that you could have an unlimited supply of SnD Coins and Casino Coins. I have decided that I'll be adding Casino coins to the Daily Codes. Instead of getting normal pokemon with breeding moves often you will get Casino coins often and the pokemon will be uncommon. The more you pay for the code the more Casino coins you can get. This will be implemented by this weekend.

Okay so let's talk about this weekend's update. These are the main things I want to get done.

These are for v4.1 which will be out this weekend.

Distribution (0%) - Creating all the different version, sending out the different versions to all it's locations.

I want to increase the level cap up to 50 but I don't know if I will make it so I will do it one level at the time. When that level is done I will post the next one.
    • Level Cap Increase to 45 (100%) - New Moves (4)
      • Horn Drill (100%) - Nidoran Male
      • Fissure (100%) - Diglett
      • Punishment (100%) - Mankey
      • Lock-On (100%) - Porygon
    • Level Cap Increase to 46 (100%) - New Moves (2)
      • Quiver Dance (100%) - Butterfree
      • Curse (100%) - Onix
    • Level Cap Increase to 47 (100%) - New Moves (5)
      • Hyper Beam (100%) - Gyarados
      • Leaf Storm (100%) - Victreebel
      • Wring Out (100%) - Bellsprout
      • Grudge (Skipped) - Vulpix - There is no PP in the game so this move will be skipped. In the future I might come back and add it.
      • Guillotine (100%) - Pinsir
The other big thing I want to do is add potions to the game, the first implementation gives you the regular potion for free as a default, eventually you will be able to buy upgrades for the potions. Once you upgrade you will get the updated potion for now on. With potions you will be limited to using 6 potions per level. Once you use 6 you won't be able to use it anymore until you start a new level. 6 should be enough to provide you a chance to beat the more difficult levels. They will work like the pokeball, you can drag it to your tower or drag it to the button at the bottom of the screen. I will also be adding the life bar to the button for each pokemon, so it will help you keep track of the tower's health.
Scyther doing Fissure (He can't learn it, I'm only testing). Notice the life bar in the button, and the potion above the pokeball.
        • Adding life bars to the tower buttons (100%)
        • Adding the regular potions to the game (100%) - Drag this to the towers to heal that pokemon for 20 health. Does not work on enemy pokemon.

Like I mentioned before I want to add Casino Coins to the Daily Codes and tweak some of the numbers on that.
          • Add Casino Coins to Daily Codes (100%) - Casino Coins will become the easiest prize to get on Daily Coins. This is available now!
          • Tweak the Daily Code prizes percentage to fit in the Casino Coins (100%)
The last thing I will work on is the big bugs that are hitting the game right now. The button pictures of the new pokemon are not showing correctly. (Examples: Eevee evolutions show gyarados, porygon, pinsir, scyther showing up as moltres, and new shinies showing up as Bulbasaur). Another bug is the life bars of your towers, making them behave correctly when you take damage. Also there is a bug when you remove your pokemon before it dies, so I will try to squash that also. Another small bug is pokemon in the Celadon Gym Level are running away after using their powder attacks (poison powder, sleep powder).
          • The tower's button showing the wrong pokemon (Ex. Flareon showing as Gyarados) (100%)
          • Tower's Life bar not showing correctly when taking damage (100%)
          • Removing a Tower before it dies bugs out (100%)
          • Enemy in Celadon gym turning around after using Sleep Power or Poison Powder (100%)
          • Fix False Swipe to actually work (100%)
          • Fix Daily Codes Reset (100%) - This is available now, you will no longer be able to use the code as much as you want on certain occasions.
          • Allow only members of Team Rocket to play in the game corner (100%) This is available now! This was made because you guys voted it to be this way!
          • Fixed a bug that was causing your moves not to go on cooldown when you missed (100%)
I was going to add a new challenge level but because I'm starting at the middle of the week I won't be able to fit that in.

We are about half way done with the story mode, 4 more gym battles, the elite 4, and then the final battle against Mewthree!

As always let me know what you think about the game, and about all things going on with Sam & Dan Games.

So looking at the polls it seems like the majority of you like the SnD Coin idea. I can assure you that you won't be able to buy anything exclusive. It is meant for players who want to save time or just donate and get a nice prize in return. If you don't or can't pay then you can still get the same prizes by playing the game or trading somebody.

I'm also looking forward to HTD Tuesdays tomorrow :) I'll be posting some art and I'll be talking a little about some early work that Dan and I have done for the design of the game.

Progress List Moved to top blog post you can discuss it there.

Keep the feedback coming! As always let me know what you think.

Pokemon Tower Defense: v3.6 is out! Let's talk! HTD Tuesdays, Snd Coins, and Daily Codes!

Want to play Ninja-ja? Get a shiny pikachu, shiny mew, shiny starter, shiny magikarp or have your suggestion for a weapon design to be used on Ninja-ja? Click here for more info on how you can get those things.

Get Ninja-ja: Apprentice Edition for free, after completing one of the offers provided!

Visit the PTD: Pokemon Center - a place to trade pokemon, view your items and change your avatar!
              • Level cap increased to 44 - This included adding 9 new moves that different pokemon will learn.

              • Missing Relearn Moves - A long time coming, your pokemon will finally be able to learn all the relearn moves that were missing. A total of 16 new moves.

              • New TMs - I made some of the relearn moves TMs.

              • Shiny and Legendary Dog popup will now stay on the screen until you click it off - A lot of you asked for this and I felt like having a poll would be a waste since I know most of you would want it this way ;)

              • Better Storage Rearrangement - Also a long time coming, now you can sort your pokemon by number or name. When swapping pokemon in the storage they will simple swap positions instead of bumping everything over.

              • Trading Center Upgrades - I still haven't finished all of them (will do so early next week), but you will be able to request who you want for a trade, you can offer up to six pokemon, if you offer what the other trainer is requesting it will automatically do the trade. Also trades will only last a certain number of days (haven't decided yet how many) until they are taken down. This is so that you know all the trades are recent and haven't just been sitting there and the trainer will never return. Like I said before these are not finished yet.

              • Bug Fixes -

                • Fixed the game wrongly accusing you of hacking when you did an NPC trade.

                • Submission will now do way less recoil damage.

                • Vital throw won't fade your character out anymore since you are throwing the enemy.

                • You can no longer drag any of the level select screens.

                • Also the fastest/slowest targeting option will now take into account any speed debuffs or buffs.

              Where can I play?
Okay so this week the update was more compact than usual, the reason for this is that I was starting to get off track from weekend updates and I wanted to get back on track. I still managed to put in quite a bit of things in there. I'm really glad I got the relearn moves done, since I had promised to add them a while ago.

There will be a new mystery gift hunt by Monday!

First I wanted to talk about Whirlwind and moves like that and also the targeting system.

The enemy can now only be turned around once. Not once per tower. Not once per specific move. Just once per enemy. Many will say I ruined the best strategy in the game. My response is that it wasn't really a strategy, it was more an exploit, an exploit that I fixed. If I kept it the way it was you could beat pretty much every defend level with it.

This brings me to my next point which is many of you think the targeting system doesn't work because of this turn around issue. The reason your pokemon might not whirlwind the same target twice even if you told it to focus candy is because that pokemon can't be turned around twice. So your tower has to ignore that enemy. Also a misconception is that some focus targeting settings will ignore everything else besides their focus. The only setting that works this way is "Ignore Red", the rest of the settings will prioritize their setting but if nothing else is available they will attack anything that is around. Lastly for the "super effective" setting you have to keep in mind dual types, your pokemon might be super effective against one of the enemies type but the other type might cancel the effect.

Second thing is a small update on Ninja-ja, Dan is working on the update and I think it will come out this week coming up :)

Third up is Daily Codes! Okay I got some great ideas for daily codes, but first I want to tell you more about what daily codes will be. For the daily code you will visit the Pokemon Center and go to a new "Daily Code" section. You will be able to once a day get a daily code that will have a chance at winning some prizes. To get your daily code you will use your poke dollars to buy a daily code. There will be different categories that you will buy. The more expensive the category the better possible prizes you will get. This is only one of the first ways that you will be able to spend your poke dollars. To get your excited for the Daily Code some of the prizes I have in mind are the following: Pokemon with breeding moves, Rare Shiny Pokemon, Legendary Dogs, Exclusive Avatars and more.

Now let's talk about SnD Coins, does anybody still remember them? Well I do, and here is my current plan. I really want to hear your opinion about how I'm thinking about using the coins. I'm not going to do something that will upset the vast majority of you so I want to first tell you about the idea before I decide to actually go thru with it. Okay so some people have been asking me recently about being able to donate money to get certain pokemon and well donations really help this game stay alive. There are servers to pay and when multiplayer comes the amount to pay will increase by quite a bit. My idea is to implement SnD Coins that you buy with real money. Once you have the coins in your account you can go and use the Coins to buy exclusive items rare items on any of my games (the coins will work on present and future games). For PTD this will mean you can use the coins to buy Rare Pokemon that are hard to find in the game. They say time is money, so if you really want the pokemon but don't want to spend all the time hunting for it or aren't getting lucky in the daily code then there is an alternative which is to buy the pokemon. Again I'm throwing this idea out there, you let me know how you feel about it.

Just wanted to make a small note about the SnD Coins, if you can't or don't want to pay for the coins it doesn't mean you should vote "No", vote "No" if you feel like nobody should be able to buy pokemon. Thanks for listening.

A little more on what you can buy for the SnD Coins. The items for sale won't be something that you can't get in the game itself. They won't be exclusive. They will be items that other people will be able to get in the game for free but that take a long time to get.

Lastly I want to talk about HTD and HTD Tuesdays. First you might be wondering HTD, what is that? HTD is the initials for our next game. HTD stands for Hero Tower Defense and it's going to be a great tower defense that I hope you guys will love it. HTD will take what you love about RPGs and MMOs and mix it in with the Tower Defense formula. We are talking epic armor, classes, talents, weapons, crafting, quest, loot drops, parties, dungeons, raids, bosses, and much much more. The artist that we ended up hiring is working on this game and I can't wait to show you guys more of his art for that game. I would love to show you this game in action but there is a problem.. ALL of my time is devoted to PTD and making updates for it. What I'm asking you guys is wouldn't it be fun to have a day, let's say Tuesday, where I work on HTD and I talk about what I did that day and show you week by week the progress that the game is making?

Let your voice be heard on the polls, and as always let me know what you think! I'll be posting the weekly progress on Monday, I will be taking Sunday to relax :)

                • Tri Attack

                • Nightmare

                • The Shiny and Legendary Dog Popups will now stay on until you click them off (100%)

                • Storage Rearrangement Update (100%) -

                  • Pokemon in the storage will now be arranged left to right instead of up and down.(100%)

                • Being able to assign who you want to a trade (100%) - This is available now! Assign up 6 pokemon that you want for your trade or leave them empty. Other trainers will see what you have requested.

                  • Fixing Submission so that it does less recoil damage (100%) - It now uses effective damage done instead of actual damage (Effective damage done is for example the attack does 500 damage but the enemy only has 100 life left then the effecitve damage done will be 100) and will pick the lowest recoil damage from 25% of effective damage done or 25% of the total percentage that the enemy took to his life (For example let's say you did 1000 effective damage but to the enemy that was only 40% of his life, instead of doing 250 recoil damage, you will do 25% of 40% which is 10% of your total life.) The game will pick the lowest one out of those two and that will be your recoil damage.

                  • The graphical effect of vital throw will no longer fade your tower and will fade the enemy instead (100%) - This move is meant to be you throwing the enemy back to the path which is why the enemy shows up rotating.

                  • No longer possible to drag any of the level select screens (100%)

                  • The Fastest and slowest targeting types will no longer ignore speed buffs and debuffs (100%)

                • Distribution (0%)

As always let me know what you think!

                Thanks to everybody who participated!

You guys voted and now you can change the nickname of a pokemon regardless if you got it from a trade.

Okay so let's talk about the update for this weekend.

We have another story mode level coming. This time we are heading to the Rock Tunnel and all it's darkness, Flash will finally have an "out of battle" use. This also means 2 new pokemon will be added along with their evolutions. Plus regular onix will also show up to be captured.

A new feature that many of you have requested for a long time is finally coming. I will be adding a tower targeting system to the game. You will be able to set your individual towers to specific targeting instructions such as attack first, attack last, attack with candy, etc.. please post your suggestions for good targeting commands on the comments below.

Finally, many of you have talked about alternative ways to get shiny pokemon that don't require extreme luck. So for one of the new pokemon that is coming in the update I will be adding a special quest inside the game that once you finish the quest you will be awarded the shiny version of that pokemon. The quest will be a combination of things that you will have to accomplish, the game will give you clues as to how to do the quest. I hope you guys will enjoy it. Eventually every pokemon will have it's own quest so that you can find it's shiny version. On top of that you can still find shiny pokemon randomly in the while just like you can now.

That's all I have for the update below you will see my progress in completing it, keep checking back during the week to see how I'm doing :)

New Story Level  (100%)- Rock Tunnel - Make your way across the maze-like tunnel and find the exit. Battle against multiple trainers, wild pokemon and a giant onix! Can you save the old man and finish his quest for a shiny voltorb? Or will your spend your days on the cave training your pokemon?

Increased Shiny Rate (100%) - Increased it from 1/10,000 to 1/8000 to better match the real games. I won't be increasing it anymore than this.

Trade Center - Non Shiny Pokemon will now say "Regular" after their level and "Shiny" is now bolded (100%) - This is to prevent scamming.

Attacking pokemon can only be made to turn around once (100%)

                  Targeting Menu
Targeting System (100%) - Choose from a variety of commands to your pokemon so that he will attack specific targets. The commands are: Regular, Fastest, Slowest, Least Health, Most Health, Super Effective (Super Effective will prioritize target's that your pokemon would be more effective against. For Example Pikachu will now hit Zubats first before he tries to hit geodude if they are all together.), Ignore Red (Ignore pokemon when they have a red bar), Focus Candy (Prioritize pokemon with candy), Ignore Candy (Prioritize pokemon without candy).

Pokemon used or captured on the hacked version of the game will now be tagged with (Hacked Version) on the trading center and will not be eligible as pokemon for any shiny quest requirement. (100%) - This will only affect pokemon that are placed in a spot or captured from v3.5 of the hacked game. All your previous pokemon that leveled up with the hacked version will not be retroactively tagged. (Note: You can still use these pokemon in your game like any other pokemon.)

New pokemon shiny quest (100%) - Get clues in the game to finish this quest and get the shiny version of this pokemon.

Increased Duration of all Buff (100%)

Fix Diglett's Cave Level (100%) - Pokemon hit with moves that make them turn around will make the candy dissapear before reaching the end.

Fix Diglett's Cave Intro Typos (100%)

                  Lower Diglett's Cave's pokemon's health (100%)

Security Update (100%) - Preventing the use of programs like Cheat Engine to change a pokemon's number or level. Doing this will result in not being able to save your game and having to log in again.

Adding New Mystery Gift Avatar (100%)

                  Bug Fixes (100%)
                  • Enemy pokemon can no longer grab candy from far away (100%)

                  • Doing two achievements at the same time will now save both achievements (100%)

                  Distribution (0%)

So that's what I have so far for the update, like I said before let me know which commands you would like the best in the comments below.

More on Shiny Quest - For people who are worried about all their time searching for shinies being wasted. This shiny quest won't be for a pokemon that was previously in the game. Also the shiny quest isn't going to be easy and will require a lot of effort for example you might need to catch a rare pokemon 10 times in one sitting, or might have to present a pokemon with a certain move. Even beat a level a certain way.to finish the quest. The quest won't be quick and easy I'll make sure of that, the good thing about the quest is that there is a guaranteed prize at the end. You aren't just looking and looking not knowing if it will show up.

                    Ideas for the Future
I've come up with an idea that will make it possible to keep all the attack's cooldown at 18 and give them their proper attack power from the handheld games.

The idea is to implement PP.

After a lot of great feedback I've decided to scrap the PP idea, and find a better solution to make it work. Scrapping the PP idea is actually better for me since I don't have to deal with coding that system. If you don't know about the PP idea don't worry about it, chances are you wouldn't like it.

Instead I'm going to do something with pokemon abilities. Basically the more your pokemon attacks or gets attacked (think street fighter 4 meters) the more rage it will build. Once you have a full rage bar you can use that pokemon's ability! I'll be looking at what abilities the games use for each pokemon but I will tweak them or completely change them into something that will be extremely useful in the game. For example when using Bulbasaur to defend you might want to use his Overgrow ability which would remain similar to the game. Once you fill up your meter and use the ability his damage will gain a great boost for a limited time. But if you are attacking then you might use Chlorophyll which I would change into not only giving you a speed boost but also heals you as well. These abilities will also have a passive component to them. So for overgrow if your pokemon gets damaged and only has very little life left then the ability will trigger for a short amount of time (abilities will have cooldown). So they will be passive yet if you build up your rage meter you can unleash a stronger version of the ability whenever you feel like.

For the moves to keep their original values and have relatively close cooldowns (some will be slightly lower or slightly higher) I will have to implement: being able to miss, being able to take recoil damage, being able to heal yourself (moves like absorb), towers being able to get status effects like paralysed and confused.

So what do you think? As always leave me comments below about what you think.

Weekly Progress: Why did you make this?, All your Mews are belong to me, and what's coming up next!

Want to play Ninja-ja? Get a shiny pikachu, shiny mew, shiny starter, shiny magikarp or have your suggestion for a weapon design to be used on Ninja-ja? Click here for more info on how you can get those things.

Hey guys! Welcome to another week of Sam and Dan Games and Pokemon Tower Defense! Let's get this show rolling.

First of all a lot of people are confused about this latest update. Why are there generation 2 pokemon? Why can't I keep them? Why are there birds in Route 2? Why can't I use the dogs on the new Gym level? Why are you only giving away 10, it's not fair! Well I'm going to tell you!

Most of my success is going to be dependent on how much fun and enjoyment I can provide you guys. I have to keep you guys excited about the game, provide a good flow of content updates, and I also have to keep the game stable and secure. To make something fun you have to have an element of surprise. People are surprised by unexpected and new things. This update was an attempt to shake things up a little and add some nice but temporary surprises.

Guys I will let you decide the fate of the dogs for this game, please vote on the poll and let your voices be heard. I'm listening.
Think about it, it is better to have legendary dogs and lose them than to never have had them at all. Something like that...Also the birds, they are not meant to be captured, they exist to give the dogs meaning. It also plays into the story, Gary has escaped the birds (see the Vermillion Gym level for details on how) and now the birds are going all over the place to find him.

About the non Generation 1 pokemon, Generation 1 just doesn't have enough legendary pokemon to fit into the story I have in mind.

You can't use the dogs in the new gym level because it would have made the level a lot easier which I obviously didn't want.

About the contest, life is a lot about being in the right place at the right time. Those 10 people just happened to be there and they got the job done. The reason I didn't announce the contest is because I didn't have it planned at all. Still I know a lot of you want a reward for beating such a hard level. So next update I will be changing the hard Vermillion Gym into a challenge mode and the prize will be a new avatar for either boy or girl. The avatar will be your character wearing a mask of either Raikou, Entei, or Suicune. Special Thanks to Forum user KimmyLube for creating these mask! Please vote on the poll to pick which mask should be given out for beating the the challenge level. The other two mask will be given out as part of two new achievements that have to do with the challenge level.
Raikou mask, regular colors for boys, and shiny color for girls

                    Entei Hat

                    Suicune Hat

WHERE IS MY MEW???! By the time you are reading this all your Mew will be gone. Let me explain a bit of back story on the situation. There was a time not so long ago that you could duplicate your pokemon and even create pokemon out of thin air! Can you believe it?!?!?! Anyways, I want to make sure that everybody who bought Hero edition or Donated in the past doesn't feel like it was a waste a time since everybody was getting Mew. Since I can't really tell which ones are legit and which ones are not in the old system I have to completely erase them and start again. If you ever donated or bought Ninja-ja Hero edition please send me an email with the subject "Mew Permission" and inside include the email you used to pay with paypal and your account email for the game. I will insert 3 lvl 40 mew intro your trading account that you can pick up for any of your profiles. But Sam I traded for my Mew?! I'm sorry to say that I can't really help you with that since I can't tell if the person that traded you actually owned a legit mew.
